Archery DVD

I’ve been shooting my first full length DVD this week, it’s based on compound archery and features Liam Grimwood and Neil Wakelin from the Great Britain compound archery team. I’ve been multi-tasking on this one working as director, DP and sound man as well as doing the lighting.

It’s a low budget production and I’ve faced a few problems with the location, the main one being echo. I limited the echo as much I could by using a tie mic mostly and only mixing in a boom mounted shotgun mic (held above them) when both presenters were talking in a shot. The final audio still contains more echo than I would like though but I guess sometimes you have to make the best of the situation.

The other big challenge was a rather dismal backdrop, I decided to shoot in the dark and light the presenters using soft lights and a hair light running above them and behind whilst keeping the backdrop as dark as possible.

More to come as the project progresses.
