Paul,

I use a Pana GH2 for Video as well as the occasional RAW photo shoots which I store on the same card. I also use a still camera Nikon D700.

Does the Nexto copy the entire card - including the RAW still photos and the directories or choose only video files.

Thanks for clarification.

PS .I currently use hyperdrive colorspace which can record my GH2 Panasonic video and still photos but I cannot preview them - so I cannot confirm whether files were ok after the shoot.

Regards

Hi there.

Yes Final Cut Pro has to transcode the mts file into a quicktime format (usually ProRes) for editing, this also happens with XDCAM and other formats. The time it takes just depends on your system performance and it's normal for the file size to increase as the format recorded by the camera is highly compressed.

Premiere Pro on the other hand has the ability to use the files natively so what you're seeing is correct.

Regards

Hi mr Paul,
I already bought NEXTO DI Video Storage Pro NVS2500 and i have 2 panasonic cameras AG-AF101 EJ. For video editing i use final cut. When i drop my videos in my mac the final cut does not recognize this video format (mts). So i find out that you must not import them. You must do "log and transfer". WHen i did this firstly it takes so long to convert them (about 1.30 hour and from 10GB that was the files became about 70 GBs. Is this correct ? or i did something wrong?
On the other side when i try to editing in Premiere cs5 it recognize the file type mts and does not make any conversation.

Please answer me as soon as possible and sorry for my bad english. I am from Greece/Rhodes.
Thank you

Saw that on the NextoDI site, but outside of a bump to FW800 and an Expresscard slot adapter for CF cards that significantly boosts copy speed (already have one that I use in MBP; looks identical), I can't tell what's more advanced about it. And if the price goes any higher, I'll have to factor in a divorce. ;)

Hi Zan, thanks for the nice comment. I know that Nexto are about to release an update to the NVS2500 in the form of the NVS2525. I'm hoping to get one for review soon but thought you might want to be aware of that before purchasing.

Paul,

I was looking for a review of this device to consider its purchase against a used Sony PXU-MS240 Mobile Storage Unit from B&H. At twice the price of the Sony unit (condition 9, but virtually no long-term warranty), it's a solemn consideration. However, the added ability to take CF cards from my 5DMk2, SDHC cards from my T2i and H4n, even my wife's ancient Memory Stick pocket point&shoot camera, as well as countless other gadgets down the road – well, that makes a significant difference in overall usability of the unit.

All things considered, this is the device I want/need (in that order) and will probably bite the bullet on the price. Your exhaustive review is typical of your work; I should follow your blog more diligently as you never fail to impress. (My first encounter with your thorough approach was back in the early days, when you were posting about EX1 backfocus testing, I believe.) Thanks so much for the outstanding review.

Hi Andre.
I'm not really sure how that relates to the NVS2500? This device allows you to backup your footage to it's internal drive so the card already needs to be out of the camera anyway.

Hi product looks great.

My problem is that when shooting a conferance for example it is continuous shooting and there is no time to reformat the card-if only you can drop the card and reformat.

Would appreciate any ideas

It's not something I've tried, but in theory I suppose so. I don't have any P2 cards to try it.
